The Pender FFA Alumni chapter began in 1983 with 75 charter members under the encouragement of then current FFA Adviser Gene Lauritsen. The first officers were Dan Wichman, Duane Prokop, Dee Roeber, and Dave Westerhold. The mission of the Pender FFA Alumni is to assist the Pender FFA Chapter in achieving their personal and chapter goals. Some of the first activities of the Alumni include the Pender Farm and Home Show and helping to organize the Ag Day for the Centennial celebration, including an obstacle course competition, antique tractor show, parade, and a ladies brunch, among other things.
Currently, the Pender FFA Alumni is the second largest in the state in terms of total membership. Current activities include creating and selling an annual FFA Calendar, an annual brisket feed, and the annual FFA Alumni golf tournament. The alumni supports the Pender FFA Chapter by assisting in putting on certain events, serving as chaperones for conventions and other trips, providing meals at various chapter events, providing an annual scholarship for graduating seniors, and helping to cover the cost of travel for students attending the Washington Leadership Conference. The Pender FFA Alumni is always looking for new members, and you don’t have to be a former FFA member to join!
