I now live in Kennesaw, Ga., and just finished viewing the video of the tearing down of the Legion Hall and it brought back a lot of great memories. I graduated from Pender High in 1962 and over those years spent many nights at dances in this hall. Also in July 1970, we had our wedding dance there.

I was born in Pender in 1949. We moved to the west coast in 1955. I attended Kindergarten in Pender ! I was going to a small country school, with just 13 students, just outside of Pender when we moved. The school is long gone now. Though it's been almost 60 years I still recall with great fondness the early years in Pender. The hot summers and the city swimming pool. The Pender Times is an excellent newspaper and the new sports reporter Mark Vrbicky is to be commended for his video coverage of the local sports and postings on Penderthurston.com. Please keep up the good work and I'll keep reading from the Coast.

Happy 125th to Pender and all its inhabitants!!

The Otteman Family is ecstatic that we are going to be able to enjoy the conclusion of the hometown anniversary celebration with Penderites this weekend. Some 60-plus of us are descending on Pender for our every-other-year Family Reunion. We decided to hold it back in Pender, ground zero for the children of Carl and Hannah Otteman, at the suggestion of Mylet McGath Otteman, the only original sister of 13 boys and girls, who still lives in Pender.
We will see and experience a lot of places that left very, very fond memories over the next few days. For those of you who might remember them, Dick, Mylet, Dorothy, Bev, JoAnn and Merlin are still alive and well and will love to catch up with folks during the celebrations!
Best,
Scott Otteman (son of Merlin)
