An Emerson man was taken into custody early Sunday morning after assaulting his wife during a domestic dispute.
Officers were dispatched at approximately 12:20 a.m. on May 7 to the 1100 block of Logan Street in Emerson after Joe Saufley, 22, called 911 and requested law enforcement and an ambulance after he stabbed his wife.
The female victim was initially transported to Pender Community Hospital and then to the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.
Her injuries are not considered to be life-threatening.
“The victim will be in intensive care for quite some time, however,” said Emerson Police Chief Chuck Chinn.
Saufley has been charged with first degree assault, but the investigation is ongoing and additional charges are anticipated.
The Emerson Police Department was assisted at the scene by the Dixon County Sheriff’s Office, Thurston County Sheriff’s Office, Winnebago Police Department, Nebraska State Patrol and Emerson Fire and Rescue.
