Eclipse captures minds and eyes

The Great American Eclipse was experienced in Pender on Monday as a rare total eclipse was seen in a path that crossed the entire continental United States, including portions of Nebraska to about 100 miles to the south of Pender.

In Pender, there was 96 percent totality experienced.

Students at Pender Public Schools watched from Heyne Field with members of the public as former PPS science teacher and current technology director Jennifer Davis provided announcements about the progress of the eclipse and explained facts about it as it unfolded.

The school district paired younger students with older ones to ensure that viewing glasses were used effectively.
