Christmas on Main St. Dec. 10

The Pender-Thurston Chamber of Commerce will once again host Santa coming to Pender on Saturday, Dec. 10.

The special Saturday will start with the story hour at the House Memorial Library, with Santa arriving at the library at 11 a.m. and cookie decorating also included.

The Pender Fire and Rescue will be giving rides on the fire trucks from the library, weather permitting.

The Christmas Kids Zone will be held at the Pender Public Schools cafeteria so children can purchase gifts for their parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, brothers and sisters for just $1 per gift.

The annual chili cookout will be held at Welsh’s Bar. Bring your pot of chili in between 5:30-6 p.m. and judging will start around 7 p.m. Welsh’s will also host an ugliest sweater contest, best traditional holiday character and the best holiday pajamas or Christmas outfit.

New to the Christmas on Main Street this year is a parade. People may line up at the corner of the park (Thurston Avenue and Main Street) at 6 p.m. and walk to the end of the courthouse block. Groups or individuals are to dress up in holiday characters, group such as nativity, angels or whatever they can dream up. Hot chocolate will be served in front of the new community building after the parade. The Pender-Thurston Chamber of Commerce wants everyone to come and join in the fun this year.
