The South Sioux City city council appointed Michael Schmiedt to the city attorney role Monday Oct. 9 after former city attorney Wayne Boyd submitted his resignation.
Boyd served the city for 47 years, according to Lance Hedquist, city administrator.
“I can't say enough good things about (Boyd),” said Mayor Rod Koch.
“We will lose a wealth of knowledge,” added Hedquist. “He will be missed.”
Schmiedt is an attorney for Crary Huff Attorneys at Law in Sioux City and has practiced law for 26 years. He graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1991.
Schmiedt was born and raised in South Sioux City. His father ran a pharmacy in the current La Juanita's building. Schmiedt lives in South Sioux City with his fiancé Mandie and her daughter Jaden. He has two adult children, Jake and Nicole, who are in college.
“(Schmiedt) comes from a great family and he's a great person,” Koch said.
“I really appreciate the opportunity to work for the city of South Sioux City,” Schmiedt said. “I know I have huge shoes to fill. Wayne is a great attorney.”
