Hey, Class of 1997...I’m sorry, but we’re here
Twenty years, man.
I happen to be a 1997 graduate, and although not from Pender High School, I think I can relate to a bunch of the people who will be back in town this weekend partying it up and reminiscing about days gone by. Days from like a really long time ago, as it were.
Like you, I can remember my own parents going to a 20-year reunion. Wasn’t that long ago. My dad just had a double-knee replacement this month so I guess that’s around the corner for us, too.
In all seriousness, 20 years is a great milestone to take note of. My, how things have changed in that amount of time. Most of us have something called a “career” that in high school seemed like an odd word without context. Would we ever have one of those?
And many of us probably have a kid, or two . . . or four. Yes, we are responsible for the lives of others now who are much closer in age to our senior-in-high school-selves than to our current manifestations. But, we also still have something. It’s called youth and years ahead. They say 40 is the new 30, so I guess that makes us like 28?
Please do me a favor and have a really good time this weekend. I’m looking forward to saying hello to my 1997 counterparts when I take the class photos here on Saturday afternoon. I have no doubts you’ll be the finest looking bunch in the room. (Well, other than the 10-year class. Yes, I know, truth hurts.)

Welcome home, all PHS alumni! Looking forward to a great weekend in Pender. And yes, you read that right . . . Street Legal. Going to be a fun one.
